Meet local Adelaide ceramic artist, Rosie Field.
Rosie Field is a ceramic artist working in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide.
She has been working with clay since 2018, when she was introduced to pottery through Ripples Community Arts, a local group providing support and encouragement to emerging and established artists. She established a small studio at her home, and began experimenting with different techniques, clays and glazes.
Her interests in nature, the Australian bush and gardens inspired her to construct a collection of ‘stacks’, each a series of ceramic elements reflecting a single theme or event which moved her; from devastating bushfires to the simple beauty of eucalypts.
A friend invited her to exhibit in her garden in the Adelaide Hills, and this led to Rosie’s first exhibition, as part of the SALA 2021 festival. It was a sell-out success, and resulted in Rosie winning the City of Unley Active Ageing Award. The works made their way into people’s homes and the bush and gardens surrounding them, showing their suitability to a wide range of environments.
Rosie successfully exhibited further stacks and other items at SALA 2022, in gallery space generously provided by the City of Unley as part of the Active Ageing Award.
In 2025, Rosie will again be exhibiting at SALA in her own garden and studio . The exhibition - Ceramic Explorations - will feature a further series of her ceramic stacks. She sees these as a way of reflecting on the natural beauty around her. She has also been experimenting with new techniques, glazes and materials along the way.
